Small Engine Repair Course

A small engine repair course will be held for two weeks in Rankin Inlet. This course will be taught by the Nunavut Fisheries Training Consortium. It is open to beneficiaries in the Kivalliq Region and will be held for two weeks in September (dates to be confirmed at a later date). The course provides the basics in Engine repairs for smaller inshore vessels.
In order to attend you must be a Inuit beneficiary 18 years or older, looking for a career in the fishing industry. All costs are paid for- travel, meals and accommodation along with a training allowance.

Picnic in the Park

Come out and take in a free BBQ and snacks sponsored by the GN and Nunavut Parks. They will be hosting a picnic at the park at the Iqalugaarjuup Nunanga Territorial Park on Saturday, August 28th from 1pm-4pm. There will also be a hike through the archeological site with stories about the structures and life of the Thule people, and on the plants of the area. A thank you ceremony and presentations will be made to Elder’s and yout…h to those who helped with the development of the signage program and interpretive material for the park.

NOTE: ELDER’S can get a drive to the park. CALL PULAARVIK KABLU FRIENDSHIP CENTRE (645-2600) on FRIDAY to arrange a pick-up for Saturday.

In case of bad weather: The picnic and presentations will be held at the community hall at 2pm. Please listen tot he radio after 10am on Saturday to ensure the picnic is still being held at the Park.

MP announcement and Agnico Eagle is coming to town

The Honorable Leona Aglukkaq along with the Honorable Lorne Kusugak made an announcement today at the Rankin Inlet Community Hall that Rankin Inlet will be receiving $10 million dollars for infrastructure upgrades to the water and sewage systems. In other news, Agnico-Eagles Mines has completed the acquisition of the Meliadine Gold Project property just outside of Rankin Inlet. Further announcements will follow with respect to Agnico-Eagle Mines’ plans for development of the Meliadine property. This will be released during a planned August 10th meeting in Rankin Inlet.

The Honorable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health and Minister Responsible for the North is arriving today July 7th, 2010. There will be a major announcement tomorrow July 8th, 2010 at 12 noon at the Community Hall.  The Hon. Leona Aglukkaq along with the Hon. Lorne Kusugak and John Hickes, Mayor of Rankin Inlet will be making a very important announcement to the people of Rankin Inlet. We are encouraging the community to attend to take in this special visit from our Member of Parliament.

Rankin Inlet Co-ed Softball League begins

The Rankin Inlet Co-ed Softball League began last night. Although the fog was thick and a mist was coming down it did not slow anyone down. “M & T” won “The Eskimos” and “Inukshuk Cons” defeated “Arctic Heating”. Play resumes the rest of the week and the schedule can be found under the Recreation departments site on the Hamlet website. Come out and cheer on your team.
