Economic Development

Welcome to the Community Economic Development Department for the Hamlet of Rankin Inlet. Over the past couple years Rankin Inlet has become an economic hotbed for entrepreneurs and mining. We have over 120 businesses currently running in our town with much more interest with the developments of the Meladine Gold Project. Rankin Inlet has been very busy with the developments of our trade school, which is set to open the Fall of 2010; our new Men’s Correctional Facility is being built as we speak and should be up and running sometime in 2011. As a department we have made some major strides in getting our community ready for this economic boom that is evident over the next couple years. Some of our accomplishments over the past year are listed below:

- Website upgrade and facebook site, attended various trade shows to market our community, purchased cell phone repeaters to put out onto the land to further our cell phone signal, purchased meat cutting saw for HTO, improvements and developments to the Diane and Meladine Road, improvements to the local radio station signal to increase the signal, developed a business case for a Deep Sea Facility, initiated a community effort in making a Mining Committee, and much more to come.

If you are looking for funding to start a new business please do not hesitate to stop into the Hamlet office or contact the Community Economic Development Officer at 867-645-2895 or cedo@rankininlet.ca.
