Lands Administration
The Planning and Lands division under the direction of the Hamlet council oversees land development, administration of municipal lands and the implementation and enforcement of article 14 of the Nunavut Lands Claim agreement.
The main responsibilities of the Planning and Lands Division includes:
• Administer and oversee all lands transactions on municipal lands
• Coordinate with the department of Community and Government Services planning division with the preparation and execution of future development and sub division designs
• The preparation and enforcement of Rankin Inlet’s Lands Administration, zoning and community plan By-laws
• Provide administrative and technical support for the general public
The three main by-laws that affect the Planning and Lands division are as follows:
Lands Administration By-law: Provides the procedures and implementation of municipal lands. This by-law also outlines the terms and conditions that will be required in municipal leases.
Community plan by-law: Describes the manner in which development or redevelopment of a municipality may best be organized and carried out. This by-law includes a detailed map of Rankin Inlet lots and what they are currently zoned as.
Zoning by-law: Provides the administration and enforcement of the community plan. This outlines the specific use, requirements and implementation of each differently zoned land within Rankin Inlet.
Copies of the above by-laws can be obtained by contacting the Hamlet office during normal business hours(8:30am to 5:00pm)
